Greetings and welcome to the Division of Health, Physical Education, Dance and Athletics. The division is designed to give students the knowledge necessary to develop lifestyles that will lengthen and enhance the quality of their lives. We are proud of the quality of programs within the division. Recently our new Dance Department was formed to keep up with increased interest in this area. Our two certificate programs, the Fitness Specialist and the Athletic Trainers Aid are now well established and meeting the needs of our students. The past few years we have also increased our offerings in Health Education and updated our physical education major offerings. Within the athletic department, 19 sports are offered to the Cerritos student body. During the 2008-2009 school year, a record 11 of these teams won conference championships. Cerritos College finished 2 nd in the State athletic supremacy rating for the second year in a row. Points are awarded based on the success of all teams in state championship competition and marks the highest finish for the college. Highlights include four State Championships this past year (Men's and Women's Soccer, Women's Track and Field, and Women's Water Polo). I am most impressed with the quality and dedication of our faculty, staff and coaches. It is these committed individuals who insure the success of the division. I hope that you would find time to visit with us and if you are interested in further study or participation, please browse our offerings. Daniel E. Smith, Ph.D. |
